Dr. Carla Freitas is a senior scientist at the Institute of Marine Research in Norway. She has a PhD from the University of Tromsø (Norway), and a MSc. in Marine and Fisheries Science from the University of Aberdeen (UK). She specialises on spatial ecology of marine top predators, with an emphasis on how these species use their environment and their ecological role in marine ecosystems – including their impact on the ocean carbon cycle.
By using animal telemetry, some of her key studies have developed novel methods to quantify marine mammal spatial behaviour and have unveiled the spatial ecology of marine megafauna, including marine mammals, sea turtles and predatory fish.
