María F. Montero

WP4 | GOB-IOCAG, University of Las Palmas, Gran Canaria

María is a senior lecturer of marine biology at the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and a member of the Biological Oceanography Group (GOB) at the Institute of Oceanography and Global Change (IOCAG)( (gob-iocag.ulpgc.es). Over the past 30 years, she has mostly focused her research on microbial respiration in the ocean through the respiratory electron transport system (ETS) activity. In the context of OceanICU, María actively contributes to task 4.3 of WP4. In this role, she collaborates in assessing dark ocean respiration on a global scale by studying ETS activity. Her work involves helping to seek parameterizations of ETS with temperature, oxygen, and organic matter to enhance our understanding of this critical aspect of oceanic processes.
