UNESCO Integrated Carbon Research Workshop

UNESCO Integrated Carbon Research Workshop

OceanICU investigators had the opportunity to contribute to the conversation of defining key priorities in Ocean Carbon cycle research during the UNESCO Integrated Carbon Research workshop, hosted by the European Commission in Brussels this past May.

This was a follow-up discussion to the 2019 meeting in Paris that led to a landmark report that has proved highly influential in terms of guiding and shaping research worldwide, including that undertaken by OceanICU. The report, Integrated Ocean Carbon Research: A Summary of Ocean Carbon Research, and Vision of Coordinated Ocean Carbon Research and Observations for the Next Decade – UNESCO Digital Library, is available on the UNESCO website

The recent meeting addressed the key priorities identified during the 2019 event, and the added considerations of the infrastructure (human, models, autonomous and ship based) that must be addressed in research going forward. The publication of the 2023 meeting report is anticipated for later this year or early 2024.
